07 September 2012

Dear Parents,

A warm welcome back to Holy Trinity Pewley Down. I really do hope you have had a happy summer. The children in both schools seem happy, rested and excited about the challenges of the coming year.
The first challenge we face is the next part of the Ofsted inspection at the Infant School. The main inspection has now been published and is available from our website. We now have the supplementary inspection which is for Voluntary Aided Church Schools. This will take place on Tuesday. It focuses on RE and Assemblies as well as the ethos of the school. The inspector has told us that this time he will be concentrating on the underlying values and the differences they make to the school. Things are not so different; one hundred and fifty years ago the school was regularly inspected by the local rector!

This term we celebrate our bi-centenary; the school was founded in 1812 in George Abbot Hospital – the sixth set up by the Church of England.  We will be thinking about the history of the school, as well as of God’s People, in our assembly series this term. The week beginning October 15th will be a special week of celebration. There will be a programme for that week in our newsletter next week. Please invite any family, friends and neighbours especially those with connections to the school.
I do hope you enjoy the lovely weather this weekend is due to bring us.
With best wishes, Richard

Meet the Team Meeting, Tuesday 11 September, 7pm
This is an opportunity to meet your child's class teacher to find out about all the exciting things planned for the year ahead as well as other useful information for the year.  Please go straight to your child’s classroom on arrival.  This will be followed by the FOPS AGM at 8pm in the hall.

Phonics Evening, Monday 17 September, 7pm
All Reception Year parents are invited to this information evening on phonics and reading.

Teacher-led clubs
Clubs letters for Years 1 and 2 are going out today so please check book bags.  Forms should be returned by Wednesday 19 September if your child is interested in taking part.  Reception Year will have an opportunity to join teacher-led clubs in the summer term.

We are very pleased to welcome Hannah who has joined our teaching team in Year 1 from Bristow Infant School in Camberley.  We also welcome Lorraine, Jacob, Angela and Emma to our TA team, as well as Anna who is doing her teacher training in Year 2.

School lunches
The price of a school lunch has increased to £2.20 per day with effect from 4 September.
Lunch cards are available as follows: £11 (1 week), £22 (2 weeks), £44 (4 weeks) and £88 (8 weeks).
Please send your payment to the office (either cheque or cash – exact money if possible) in an envelope marked with the child’s class and name. We will put a reminder in the newsletter when the 4 week and 8 week lunch cards need to be renewed.

For the first few weeks of term we will be producing paper copies of the newsletter.  After that we will revert to putting the newsletter on the website on Fridays and sending out a ParentMail reminder with a link to the website.  If anyone is unable to access the internet please let the office know and we will provide a paper copy.

The FOPS AGM will be at 8 PM immediately after the Meet the Team Evening next Tuesday, 11th. Drinks and nibbles will be provided.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Chestnut Class:  Ros Vickerman (Emily)
Thank you to all those who have volunteered.  We still need another rep for Chestnut class.  If you are willing and able to help, please speak to either Jane Bell or Emily Bourke.
We are also looking for volunteers for two small jobs:
Christmas Cards
We are participating in a Christmas Card fundraising project.  The children design Christmas cards which are then available for purchase.  We need a volunteer to co-ordinate this.  It takes very little time and will be completed before the October half term.  If you can help with this, please speak to Jane or Emily.
Second hand uniform
We are also looking for someone to take responsibility for the second hand uniform sale.  A big  ‘thank you’ to Cecily Poole who has done this job brilliantly for many years.  The sales take place approximately once a term and involve very little extra work.  Please speak to Jane or Emily if you could help with this.

Scooters & buggies
To help ease congestion in the corridors, please leave buggies in the playground while dropping off children in the morning.

Please also remind children not to ride scooters in the playground.  They can be parked in the scooter park (by the path between the front door and the car park) during the school day.
