Junior Newsletter 14/9/12

14 September 2012

Dear Parents

We have had a really good start to term at both sites – all the children seem happy and have settled quickly into their new classes. This week we had the second part of the Ofsted at Pewley Down. We were inspected on RE, assemblies, ethos and leadership. Again the result is embargoed for about 2 weeks, but I am able to say that we got exactly the result we had most hoped for! The report will be published on the website as soon as we receive it and then I will write to you about it in more detail.

Our two main focus areas for the curriculum this term are maths and writing. We have set targets in these areas and these are included in our School Development Plan; it is my intention to publish this on the website soon. At Holy Trinity the new ways of organising the teaching of maths will be discussed at the Meet the Team meeting that takes place on September 20th. This will give you an opportunity to listen to and question me about this new initiative.

Following this meeting the HTSC (the HT PTA) AGM will take place at 8pm. We still need people to volunteer for the position of Chair (or 2 x Co-chairs) and also some class reps. Please consider if you could help in this way.

At Pewley Down the inspectors highlighted the gap between girls’ and boys’ writing at the end of last year. This is a national picture and something that we are very mindful of in the way we teach the children. At our residential In Service Training writing, and especially writing which encourages boys to make progress, will be the main theme.

We continue to strive for excellence in all that we do and really hope that this will make a difference to the challenge and enjoyment of our teaching for all children.

With best wishes, Richard

Meet on Thursday at 12.30pm in the music room. We have a great string section but are lacking woodwind and brass players. Please encourage your children to come along if they play these instruments. All the sessions are great fun and the music varies in difficulty so as long as the child has been playing their instrument for a term they are SO very welcome. If you have any queries please contact Judy on judyd@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk

Kayak Club
Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances there will be not Kayak Club until the Summer Term. If you wish to pursue independently please contact the Wey Kayak Club direct http:/www.weykayak.co.uk/

Head lice
We have cases of head lice in year 3, for treatment and detailed information please follow the link below

HTSC stands for Holy Trinity School Community. The name was chosen few years ago to be more inclusive not just of the parents and staff of the school, but also of the community we live in. We are the PTA of the school.
Who are we?
We are parents of children at the school, just like you. By virtue of having a child at the school, you are already a member of the Holy Trinity School Community.
What we do?
We are all volunteers, and give our time to HTSC to organise and run social and fund raising events for the school. These include the Bonfire Night, Christmas Fair, Summer Fair, and Cake Sales during the year and a whole lot more. We are also a registered charity
How can you help?
You can help by giving us some of your time to become involved in our events. To find out how, please come along to a HTSC meeting, find out what we are planning, and decide if you can help and how much you want to do.
Get involved
If you are unable to help in the organising and running of events, you can also help by attending. All the money we raise goes back into the school, for the benefit of your children. The more money we raise, the more the school receives to spend on equipment it would not otherwise be able to afford. Every little helps

New class lists for all years have been issued this week, please check your details are correct, please send any changes to hts@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk clearly identifying the year and name of your child. If you did not receive the class lists please check that you are registered correctly on Parentmail.

We are still looking for class reps in all years, thanks to everyone who has volunteered already. We are also still in need of a Chair or 2x Co Chairs. Please feel free to email/speak to Caroline Swift (caroline@swifts.me.uk) if you are considering any of these roles - happy to answer any questions - and there is loads of info available in the HTSC files to help!
